Legendary band Chicago will perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, April 7, 2013.
Chicago is the first American rock band to chart Top 40 albums in five different decades. Formed in 1967 in Chicago, the self-described "rock and roll band with horns" released their first album “Chicago Transit Authority” in 1969. By July of that year, the album had reached the Top 20 on the charts without the benefit of a hit single. It was their first certifited gold album and eventually went on to sell more than two million copies. Since then they have had record sales of 100,000,000+, 21 top 10 singles, five consecutive number one albums, 11 number one singles, and five gold singles. An incredible 25 of their 33 albums have been certified platinum.
Second only to The Beach Boys in Billboard singles and albums chart success among American bands. Considered one of the longest running and most successful pop/rock 'n' roll groups in history, Chicago is the first American band to chart top 40 albums in five decades – a landmark achievement. Chicago was the leading US singles charting group during the 1970s. They have sold over 38 million units in the US, with 22 gold, 18 platinum, and 8 multi-platinum albums. Chicago’s live 2005 DVD of their epic performances with Earth, Wind & Fire was certified platinum in less than two months.
